BLACKXDESIGN Symposium

The Symposium
The Black by Design Symposium at San Diego State University is a multidisciplinary event exploring Black creativity, identity, and innovation in design through talks, exhibitions, and student engagement. Hosted by the School of Art and Design, it highlights the influence of Black designers across graphic design, fashion, architecture, and digital media. Featured speakers have included Ugochi Iwuaba, Mathew Barnes, Michael Robinson, and Kevin Bethune, who discuss creativity, culture, and equity in design. The symposium is supported by Arts Alive SDSU, a university-wide initiative that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement through the arts.Created for the event, my poster infographic highlighting women African artists further amplifies the symposium’s mission by celebrating underrepresented voices in global art and design. The piece supports Arts Alive's goals by fostering cultural awareness, education, and dialogue through visual storytelling.

Inspiration
